Hello!
ReplyDeleteLike England, here in Scotland, we enjoy Hot Cross Buns- just like those in the photo.
Children always roll hard boiled eggs, which are decorated or painted. This is a Christian celebration, relating to the rolling away of the rocks and stones around Jesus' tomb.
Children in Scotland always look forward to receiving chocolate eggs at Easter!

We celebrate the Easter in 19th of April.. Easter is the greatest holiday in the Orthodox Church.
On the Good Thursday most women do their Easter baking of “flaounes” and “koulouria”. We also make red eggs and we decorate with lot of paint!!! =)
On the good Friday we are preparing the Joudas it is a big bonfire is lit in the Church yard…On the good Saturday we barn it. In the night we go to the Church with candles and in the end of the sermon we go out and we enjoy the fireworks!! On Sunday morning most people go home, where red eggs are cracked and we eat “flaounes” and “koulouria”. On Easter Sunday we play traditional games and we change chocolate eggs and presents!!!
Hello, my name is Arda I live in Istanbul. Here in Turkey we celebrate Easter at 12th of April, it lasts 3 days. The first day we start coloring eggs and baking cakes for easter.During Easter we first go to the church and pray, sit there for a while then we visit our family members starting with my grandma, she is always prepares wrapped eggs, collored eggs and Ester cake for us.Everyone we visit gives us a basket full of chocolate shaped as a rabbit or another animal, sugar and collored eggs.I visit my friends and we talk for a while, eat the things we collected and watch a movie. We eat the things we collected but sometimes we can't finish it (Because it is too much) and leave it for other days.
ReplyDeleteHi I'm Delfin I teach German at Istek Bilge Kagan Primary School. I've been working here for 4 years and I'd like to share my comments about Easter celebrations here in Turkey.
ReplyDeleteEvery year,in March first we do the necessary preparation for Easter, first we start to color the eggs, then as a tradition we prepare Sutlac (a dessert called milky rice) and Easter cakes, and we definitely cook Zeytinyaglı Yaprak Dolma (stuffed grape leaves with olive oil). 2 days before Easter we come together in the churches at night and we turn off the lights and pray in the church. On Easter day we put on our new clothes which are especially bought for that day and then we go to the church first and then visit the family members starting from the eldest member of the family.During of our visits we take eggs and an Easter cake with us to be given to the host. The next day we go to the graveyard to visit the graves of the family members. We really feel happy that day because it's a very important holiday for us.
Hello, my name is Adelina, my colleagues are Alina and Sanda and we are from Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
ReplyDeleteWe learn at Colegiul Tehnic Raluca Ripan and we want to say that in our country at Easter we paint the eggs or we use beads to make wonderful egges for Easter.
In the morning we go to the church and bring home "Pasti", holy bread and wine.
For food, we are cooking sponge cake with nuts and poppy, we eat lamb meat prepared in the avon, and salads.
The next day, boys are coming to the girls homes to spray them with parfume, to grow up! Girls serves the boys with cakes and juice.
Wonderful holiday for all of us! It's a pleasure to be together and to celebrate this holy Easter!

Of course, we (parents) tell the origin of that celebration. At the moment, children mix Easter Rabbit and Bells from Roma.
Menu : at maternal gdma's, the "mouna" is our traditional Easter cake.
At paternal gdma's we eat the traditional leg of lamb.

Dear John,
ReplyDeleteThank you for asking us that question because I had never share that with my pupils'parents. You perhaps know that in France we have no religion lessons. So we are not used to speak about Easter, only chocolate and eggs...
But last week I read the Bible (catholic) with my Yr3. They were really interested. Even if we have muslims or atheists or...
And we explained all our bank holidays explaining if they come from religion or other.
And parents participated at home. Very rich !
Isabelle, Boudonville, France
